Deflection Shield is an Occult Scroll.
Enemies that are further than 15 meters away will deal -90% damage, making most attacks deal negligible amounts of damage. However enemies within 15 meters deal +90% damage, almost doubling their damage.
Because of these extreme changes in damage, it is advised to always be aware of how close enemies are at all times, especially melee-based ones, as they can quickly kill you if allowed to get close enough.
Using the minimap to watch for enemies is a good way to keep track of them.
Despite distant enemies doing negligible amounts of damage, they are still capable of preventing Shields? from recharging and inflicting elemental effects.
Enhanced: When holding weapon 2, the bonus/penalty is reversed. Enemies that are further than 15 meters away will deal +90% damage, and enemies within 15 meters deal -90% damage. This makes weapon 2 very powerful when used in close quarters, making Shotgun and
Melee Weapon high effective to put in this slot.
However, one needs to be careful of enemies they haven't gotten near yet, as they will cause massive damage. It is a good idea to use weapon 1 when approaching enemies, then swap to weapon 2 when near enough.
Equipping Foundry (which is weapon 3) will completely disable all effects of the enhanced scroll, offering neither the bonus or penalty regardless of range.
Dual-Wield will apply the bonus/penalty of whichever weapon is in the main hand. Starting it with weapon 2 equipped will result in taking less damage from close enemies, and more damage from far enemies.
This can trivialize some stationary bosses such as Golem by nearly completely nullifying their damage, however predominantly melee bosses e.g. Pole Monarch become much more dangerous; if the player wants to keep the scroll but the boss is a bad matchup, they can temporarily drop it in the boss arena and then pick it up again once the boss is defeated.

Lone Ranger increases Lucky Shot Chance when far away from all enemies.
Airbag can help protect against powerful close attacks by preventing further damage if Shields/Armor breaks.

Spirit Feline decreases damage taken to a maximum of 14% of total
Health? and
Shields? or
Armor?, which can negate the increased damage from close attacks. Distant enemies will still deal negligible damage as well. However close enemies with rapid attacks will deal even more damage.

- Traps have odd interactions with Deflection Shield, depending on the trap. Flamethrower traps and explosive barrels are considered nearby, and deal increased damage. Boulders and corrosive barrels on the other hand are considered far away, and deal decreased damage. Lightning traps, corrosion ball traps and spike traps are currently untested.
